Dr. Mary Churchill

Mary C. Churchill, Ph.D., is a lecturer in Liberal Studies, Native American Studies, American Multicultural Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies at Sonoma State University.  Her work has appeared in the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion, and American Indian Quarterly as well as in Sacred Rights: The Case for Contraception and Abortion in World Religions and Reading Native American Women: Critical/Creative Representations.  She earned her Ph.D. at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1997 specializing in the subjects of American Indian religious traditions and women and religion. She taught at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Iowa before coming to Sonoma State in 2007.  She was also a postdoctoral fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Harvard University.
